Reclaim Escaped Heat for Measurable Energy Savings

Heat Recovery System

HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM

As air is exhausted from process equipment, that heat is lost as well. Heat recovery systems help to reclaim some of this heat that escapes with the exhausted air, in turn providing measurable energy savings. On average, GFS heat recovery systems will provide 40-50% energy savings for air make-up systems serving the booth for both heating and cooling.

Low initial cost (vs. heat wheel or heat pipe)
Simple and reliable operation
Low operating costs
Payback periods as low as 18 months

How it Works
A state-of-the-art, air-to-air exchanger is combined with a high efficiency direct fired air make-up heater to capture some of this heat as air exits the building. This recovered heat then warms up the intake air that is brought into the building. Coupling a direct fired air make-up unit with an efficient and easily maintained heat exchanger provides the ideal industrial heating and ventilating system.
Features

Air-to-Air Heat Exchanger

A flat plate air-to-air heat exchanger captures heat from the exhausted air and uses that heat to heat up the incoming fresh air into the booth or oven. This heat exchanger is 50-60 percent effective, dependent upon face velocity and plate spacing.

Variable Speed Unit
with Economizer

The Economizer feature will slow the booth and air make-up unit to half speed when the painter isn’t spraying in the booth. Reducing the booth to half speed will reduce the amount of heat being exhausted and reduce electrical usage.

Direct-Fired Burner

The direct-fired burner offers 100 percent thermal efficiency, as opposed to 80 percent (nominal) efficiency for an indirect fired air make-up heater. The turndown ratio for direct-fired units is much greater than common indirect fired units. This means better control of discharge air temperatures and better use of fuel energy to heat the air as it moves across the burner.

Heavy-Duty Construction

GFS’ Industrial Heat Recovery System is constructed with a G-90 galvanized casing. Designed for outdoor mounting, this unit is built to withstand the toughest weather conditions.
CONFIGURATIONS

GFS’ Heat Recovery units are available in the following configurations:

Constant exhaust volume applications (100 percent outside air supply)

Variable exhaust volume applications

  • Modulating outside air/recirculated room air (AR/80)
  • Variable air volume supply via VFD (Demand Air)
Custom configurations including diagonal heat exchanger
