For dealerships in search of higher profit margins on collision repair, paint shop efficiency can be improved by selecting the right type of equipment, streamlining processes with quick lanes and improving turnaround time with short wave electric infrared (IR) curing technology.Ā
With a quick lane, the repair and painting can be performed in the same bay of a booth without needing to move the vehicle, which helps prevent backlogs. Since some undercoats take a while to dry, saving time on the front end is beneficial. That allows more extensive, time-consuming repairs to be performed in the other lane, where a vehicle can sit for longer stretches without slowing down the entire shopās progress.
Repairs of four panels or less are best suited for a quick lane, while larger repairs can be completed in a separate paint booth. Ideal repairs for a quick lane are small scratches, dings and dents. Small surface repairs on doors also can be completed in the quick lane.
In trying to overcome the used car shortage, dealerships that keep used cars in their fleet by doing small repairs on-site, rather than sending them out for repairs, have a leg up on their competition. To best accomplish this, a quick lane can be established at a dealership by pairing a prep station with accelerated curing, such as REVO Accelerated Curing Systems from Global Finishing Solutions (GFS).Ā
