“GFS Was the Obvious Choice” for a New Side-Load Finishing System

Drew Bryant knew he had the processes and people in place to be successful at DB Orlando Collision, however, he needed more efficient equipment and a refined layout. A Side-Load Finishing System from Global Finishing Solutions (GFS) helped solve problems in his fast-growing body shop.

Please introduce your business and tell us your story.

“In 2011, I walked away from the restaurant industry, exhausted as a training manager, and began a new adventure by opening DB Orlando Collision. Although I had never worked in the collision repair field professionally, I always had a passion for vehicles. During the time I spent climbing the ladder of the restaurant world, I learned that truly exceptional customer service was generated primarily through consistent, repeatable processes and accompanied by the ability to maintain strict discipline and accountability throughout our operation. This mentality has become my natural approach to problem solving in the body shop. Over the last few years, I have worked on placing others in key positions, while providing myself an opportunity to work on the business, rather than in the business. Developing foundational standard operating procedures and creating production efficiencies by implementing, identifying and developing processes and checklists has been a tremendous asset to our operation.”

What services do you offer and what kind of jobs do you usually perform?

“We are a factory certified collision repair facility, providing full-service collision repair and claims handling support to our customers. We are dedicated to providing our customers with the latest the industry has to offer. We maintain our certifications and acquire new relationships, while constantly updating our equipment to continue the innovative approach to today’s repairs. The repair accuracy and overall confidence we provide our clients is truly inspirational.”

How did you decide on GFS equipment?

“After careful comparison of various side-load booth applications, GFS was the obvious choice. The execution of our vision by GFS and our local distributor, Florida Filtration, was spot-on. As we evaluated our day-to-day operation with our previous equipment, it was obvious there was a significant amount of efficiency to be gained in the paint department. I was confident in our current standards and processes, however, our old equipment was not supporting our technician efficiencies because of space restrictions. We relocated a few bathrooms, took down a few walls and designed the space to accommodate a Side-Load System from GFS that includes an Ultra XD Paint Booth, Ultra XD Closed-Top Open-Front (CTOF) Booth and Ultra XD Paint Mix Room. The equipment has revolutionized the only missing piece of our incredibly predictable repair environment.”

How has GFS equipment changed your processes and impacted your business?

“Implementing this side-load technology into our paint department has allowed us to apply the same standards and accountability we have throughout our other departments. We have done this by creating visual checkpoints within the paint department, and we eliminated downtime in the spray booth. By having a vehicle on deck, it is very easy to determine the status of a repair without any verbal communication. Whether viewing remotely, on site or just passing through the paint department without speaking to anyone, we can determine the flow of what will be painted next, simply by observing what vehicle or repair order is on the dollies of the Side-Load System. The more we can clearly define what is taking place throughout the repair plan and what the overall expectation is without having to verbally communicate or write everything is not only a necessity, it is a true advantage that helps us shine across the board.”

What is the plan for the future of your business?

“We plan to continue to take an innovative approach to the collision repair industry. We hope to carry our consistent, repeatable and disciplined standards of operation to a second DB Orlando Collision location and provide our local market with the highest level of collision repair, claims handling support and customer service.”
