Aircraft Paint Booth Product Info

With Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, GFS engineers can simulate booth airflow performance. This technology is especially beneficial for large, custom projects, as it allows us to test our engineering designs before the equipment is built, saving time and money, and improving the overall product performance.

Aircraft paint booth construction installation by GFS

Aircraft paint booths can be constructed within an existing hanger or as an integrated part of new building construction. If hanger space is available, Aircraft Paint Booth Inserts may be the perfect solution for your refinishing operations.

In some instances, such as new building construction, it is better to integrate the paint booth with the building elements. GFS will work with the building architect(s) to integrate our paint booth design goals with the building design goals.

crossdraft airflow example in a GFS Aircraft Paint Booth

Comprising about 75 percent of aircraft paint booths, crossdraft booths are the most common style of booth for aerospace finishing operations. Air flows from end to end in a crossdraft booth, matching the natural flow of air across the aircraft. This provides excellent quality finishes.

Generally regarded as the best airflow style, downdraft aircraft paint booths help generate a truly world-class finish. Thereā€™s an advantage of allowing gravity to pull overspray to an exhaust pit in the floor. Downdraft aircraft booths can be designed for a specific plane to optimize the airflow design and overall efficiency. For the most economical design, a downdraft booth should be incorporated early into your facilityā€™s design process.

installing filters in an aircraft paint booth -filtration

Aerospace National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) requires the use of high-efficiency filters to remove 95 percent of particles over 2 microns in size under certain conditions. The use of a three-stage filtration system is mandatory, and the filters must be in accordance with EPA Method 319.

GFS uses a filtration system that provides 99 percent removal of most paint spray aerosols. This exceeds the requirements of both of these environmental protection agencies. The three-stage filtration system consists of roll media, a MEPT panel filter and a six-pocket bag filter.

aircraft paint booth lighting provided by GFS

GFS Aircraft Paint Booths feature superior lighting. Ceiling and wall lights are strategically placed to provide a luminous environment for the painter to apply finishing touches. GFS will work with you to design the most energy-efficient lighting setup for your paint booth, without sacrificing quality.

types of GFS Aircraft paint booth doors

Doors are a critical element of paint booth design. GFS Aircraft Paint Booths feature many product door options ā€” including bottom-rolling filter doors, plenum filter doors, solid bottom-rolling doors and multi-fold doors ā€” to suit the layout of an installation.

Temperature and Humidity control in a GFS aircraft paint booth

Modern aircraft paints are best applied in a narrow temperature range and specific humidity level. To help maintain the required climate in the aircraft paint booth, temperature and humidity controls can be designed into the air replacement systems. GFS has successfully integrated these controls into many of our Aircraft Paint Booths.

Recirculation is an effective method for reducing not only operating costs of the aircraft paint booth, but also equipment costs.

GFS can provide a recirculated air system for your Aircraft Paint Booth that will allow for accurate control of the booth climate and airflow, while providing the most efficient operating system possible.

GFS Aircraft Paint Booth

GFS guarantees that our products meet or exceed all of the applicable codes related to the equipment. Our engineers regularly follow and contribute to the advancement of codes and standards that affect the industries in which we work. One of our engineers serves on the NFPA Technical Committee on Finishing Processes, a key standard in the finishing industry.

OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
NFPA – National Fire Protection Association
ETL – Electrical Testing Labs
EPA – Environmental Protection Agency
ICC – International Code Council

Conformal Booth Design

GFS has pioneered the use of conformal aircraft paint booths. With this design, air is introduced at a higher velocity in the spraying zone than in the non-spraying areas of the paint booth. This provides excellent painting performance, while minimizing the amount of air and energy required for the process.

In some cases, these designs can result in a savings of 15 to 30 percent in capital and operating costs when compared to that of a traditional booth design.
