Global Finishing Solutions (GFS) is a family-owned and operated company, focused on our family of exceptional employees. With this “people-first” approach, our employees have every chance to flourish and make their mark. Each month, we spotlight a different department within the company, from our manufacturing floor to our office buildings.
As defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI), project managers are change agents — they make project goals, and use their skills and expertise to inspire a sense of shared purpose within the project team. They play a strategic role in how organizations succeed, learn and change. This month, let’s learn more about the team that helps our projects, customers and company succeed, learn and change — all on time and on budget.
Department name: Project Management
Number of employees: 7
Who they are: Project managers at GFS are detail-oriented and organized, with diverse backgrounds ranging from project management and construction to aerospace, injection molding, packaging and quality. They are focused on safety and quality, with an eye for problem solving. Being team-oriented, GFS project managers support each other and have fun along the way.
What they are known for: On all aerospace projects and as requested on industrial projects, GFS assigns a dedicated project manager to lead cross-functional teams and follow a project through from start to finish. The project manager becomes the primary contact once the sale is complete and is responsible for working with the cross-functional team to provide a product that meets the customer’s expectations.
How they make a difference: GFS project managers strive to:
- Ensure customer expectations are being met — this results in customers having the equipment they need, when they need it
- Provide a quality product — this results in ensuring long-lasting, reliable performance
- Provide exceptional customer service — this results in building great customer relationships and repeat business
Hidden department fact: Although a small group, two members of the project management team have family that also works at GFS. Nathan Peterson, project manager, has a son, Brandan Licht, who works in the electrical engineering department. Brad Knight, project manager, is married to Terri Knight, who works in the service and preventative maintenance department.
Meet GFS Team Member: Eric Semingson
Eric started with GFS in 2012 and enjoys his job as manager of project management.
“My role is very rewarding,” says Semingson. “I get to work with cross-functional teams to problem solve and generate solutions to complex challenges, help my direct reports grow within the department and company, and do my part to help the company continuously improve.”
As much as he does for GFS, the company also gives back to Eric.
“GFS has greatly enhanced my leadership skills and taught me how to handle stressful situations,” Semingson said. “The company also allows me to contribute to fundraising events and participate in continuous improvement efforts.”
Outside of GFS, Eric spends his free time golfing, camping and boating. In the fall, his activities turn to hunting, and he also enjoys hibernating through the cold winters of Wisconsin. He also recently helped his brother campaign — and win — for sheriff of Trempealeau County.
