JY Collision Center
📍Fall Creek, Wisconsin
When Jordan Yule went from body shop manager to owning his own business, he wanted to keep his paint booth selection local with a new Global Finishing Solutions (GFS) Performer® ES Paint Booth.
Please introduce your business and tell us your story: I graduated from the Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) autobody program in 2005. I worked in a restoration shop for about a year until I transitioned to Osseo Ford in Osseo, Wisconsin, where I worked as their head painter for 10 years. For the last three years I was there, I was the body shop manager, working about 65 hours a week, and an additional 30 on the side while starting my new business.
In November 2016, I opened JY Collision at my house and worked there for the next eight months. That setup didn’t give me the capacity or location that I wanted, so I bought my current shop in August 2017. JY Collision Center officially opened its new doors in Fall Creek, Wisconsin on Oct. 8, 2017. A year later, in October 2018, we started our 3,210-square-foot expansion, which we completed in February 2019.
What services do you offer and how many jobs do you perform? Our services include anything that deals with appearance — dings, dents, collision repair, paintless dent repair, custom paint, hydrographics, fleet vehicles, etc. We have a state-of-the-art paint mixing room and pre- and post-scanning services. We are all about first impressions, and we get about 35 flawless finishes a month using our new GFS paint booth.
What finishing equipment did you purchase and how did you decide on GFS equipment? I purchased a Performer ES Paint Booth from Global Finishing Solutions. With GFS located in my hometown of Osseo, I knew I wanted to keep it local. I also have a few friends who work for GFS, and I wanted to support them, too. I looked into other spray booth manufacturers, but the quality and local support was an important factor. I know I can count on GFS if there are any maintenance or mechanical issues since they stand behind their products and are based here in Wisconsin. I don’t even know where the other manufacturers are located.
With the expansion, we outfitted our shop and paint booth with new LED lamps and purchased a new Aluminum Repair Station. This allows us to put through more work and to become one of the only Ford-certified body shops in the area.
How do you think the equipment has benefited your business? The paint booth has definitely reduced the number of contaminants and dirt in our paint finishes — the cleanliness is great when it comes to controlling overspray and other particles. It’s just an all-around better-quality paint job.
Even the paint booth filters that came with the booth were high quality — they were great and lasted about three months! The ones I have in there now were from a local store and they only last about a month.
What is your plan for the future of your business? Our five-year plan was to double the size of the building, so now we have room for a separate body shop and paint shop. We are also looking into expanding our service capabilities, as well as adding an Air Make-Up Unit to heat our paint booth and make our shop more efficient.
