GFS People: Meet the CNC Programming Team

CNC Programming Team

Global Finishing Solutions® (GFS) is a family-owned and operated company, focused on our family of exceptional employees. With this “people-first” approach, our employees have every chance to flourish and make their mark. Each month, we spotlight a different department within the company, from our manufacturing floor to our office buildings.

A vertical manufacturer, GFS designs and builds almost all of the components found in our paint booths and finishing equipment — including lights, fans, motors, control panels, filters and the enclosures themselves — at our headquarters in Osseo, Wisconsin. Many of these parts and components are cut, bent, drilled and welded together with high-tech machinery. Our team of talented CNC programmers are responsible for programming all of our shop equipment to create specific parts and components. Let’s learn a little more about the team behind the CNC programming at GFS:

Department name: CNC Programming

Number of employees: Four full-time, one intern

Who they are: The group of CNC programmers is a hardworking group of individuals who rarely miss a day’s work. With varying ages and experience levels, the CNC Programming department enjoys the work they do, which contributes to a low turnover rate.

What they are known for: CNC programmers are responsible for writing the instructions for operating machines in manufacturing facilities. These machines are used to shape and cut products and parts with precision. The team at GFS creates programs for the turrets in our shop, while optimizing the software to decrease waste and improve efficiency.

How they make a difference: The CNC Programming team is unique in that they touch all projects that go through the manufacturing facility at GFS. By reviewing all of our jobs, the CNC Programming team helps to identify opportunities to reduce waste, in material and time, while also ensuring the highest-quality materials and projects leave our facility.

Hidden department fact: You may have seen team member Dan Quarberg on the court or on the field at our local high schools — he referees for the WIAA, including a WIAA state basketball championship game this year.

GFS Team Members: Meet the CNC Programming Department

From six months to 18 years, the CNC Programming team has a wide range of expertise and tenure with GFS. Casey Moe, a CNC programmer with GFS for four years, mentioned that working at GFS has allowed him the opportunity for new experiences in the programming field, but also commented on the versatility and work/life balance within the company — a common trait among the four full-time employees. For instance, as a WIAA referee, Dan Quarberg, another CNC programmer, enjoys the flexibility to be able to leave work at 3:30 p.m. so that he can referee football and basketball throughout the year.

The versatility at GFS has also allowed the team members to be able to enjoy their other hobbies in the rural Wisconsin area, including hunting, fishing, golfing, grilling and spending time with their family and friends.

James Gurney, CNC programming manager, commented that he enjoys spending time outside of GFS with his family and friends, but added that his favorite part about working at GFS is the people and the attitude that they display towards GFS. Although he has only been with the company for the past six months, he has thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone!

It truly is a family atmosphere — Nate Julson, another CNC programmer, mentions that the people he works with are his favorite part about working at GFS. Over the past 13 years, he said he has had the opportunity to work with some very motivated and dedicated people, which contributes to a better work ethic. Ethan, a high school intern, also commented on the helpfulness of the employees at GFS.

“It’s a fun work environment, with great people, too,” Quarberg adds.

Thank you for all of your hard work!
