Automotive Paint Booth FAQs

GFS offers two main types of paint booths for auto body shops and collision repair centers:

Ultra Paint Booths

This premium paint booth line offers all of the tools auto body shops need to increase productivity and finish quality, including exceptional lighting, intuitive controls, contamination control and reliable overspray capture. Ultra Paint Booths are available in multiple sizes and configurations, ranging from the single-skin Ultra XS Paint Booth to the massive Ultra XL Paint Booth

All pre-engineered Ultra Paint Booths and standard options are ETL-listable, meaning Electronic Testing Laboratories conducted a third-party inspection, ensuring the booth meets or exceeds all pertinent safety codes and performance requirements.

Performer Paint Booths

This paint booth line provides quality and affordability to small and medium-sized auto body shops. The Performer ES Paint Booth offers reliable performance and durable hardware to appeal to the value-minded shop owner, while the Performer XP1 Paint Booth provides expanded features, such as a best-in-class GUL2000 heater, LOGIC 3 control panel, powerful fans and an integrated AdvanceCure Accelerated Airflow System.

Pre-engineered Performer Paint Booths are also ETL-listable, meaning they’re inspection-ready and guaranteed to comply with safety and performance standards.

If you’re unsure which paint booth is right for your shop, Global Finishing Solutions can help. We’ll consider your facility’s unique layout and job requirements so you can choose the perfect spray booth for your needs.

Our paint booths generally support two types of airflow: downdraft and semi-downdraft.

Downdraft booths pull air in through the ceiling and exhaust through the floor, creating the cleanest possible painting environment for demanding applications and top-end finishes.

Semi-downdraft booths introduce air from the ceiling in the front of the booth and exhaust it through the floor toward the rear, offering most of the benefits of downdraft airflow with less ductwork and a smaller exhaust pit or raised floor.

Both are great options, and GFS optimizes them with our proprietary Premium Controlled Airflow Ceiling. The main airflow zone creates a protective air envelope around the vehicle, while secondary airflow zones protect the booth walls from overspray and keep particulate contaminants out of paint jobs. A row of color-corrected, angled ceiling light fixtures separates the zones, providing top-notch illumination so workers can see what they’re painting.

Cross draft booths are the third airflow option. Air flows horizontally from the booth’s front to the rear, providing a straightforward and cost-effective system. While their performance doesn’t quite match downdraft models, they are still an excellent option for smaller shops with budget constraints. Cross draft booths are also easier to integrate into existing systems.

Many factors go into choosing a booth, including project volume, what types of jobs you handle and your facility’s layout. How does air flow through your space? What level of finish do you need? There are plenty of variables to consider.

That’s where we come in. Our design and engineering team can ensure all relevant factors are considered, including air handling requirements, equipment placement, environmental controls and seismic zone considerations for structural integrity. Then, we’ll help you pick a booth size, airflow style, lighting and accessories. We can also help you understand the long-term costs of your equipment and explain maintenance requirements.

GFS isn’t just a manufacturer, but rather a partner dedicated to seeing your shop succeed.

The collision repair industry presents multiple challenges, including rapid turnaround times, limited space and working on a broad spectrum of vehicle types. Fortunately, GFS has more than 50 years of experience helping body shops coat everything from tiny auto parts to large vehicles.

We work directly with auto shops, dealership groups and multi-shop operations (MSOs) to deliver complete paint booth systems designed for safety, speed and repeatability. We help collision repair centers configure layouts to meet airflow and code compliance requirements within their existing footprint, retrofitting new products to systems as needed to ensure seamless workflow. We’re always ready to share our expertise with shop owners searching for a competitive edge.

No. GFS also offers a large variety of accessories, tools and finishing equipment to help your body shop get more out of your automotive paint booth. For example, side-load finishing systems improve productivity and maximize shop space by allowing vehicles to travel between work bays swiftly on an integrated track -and -dolly system. Workers don’t need to drive vehicles into the booth, allowing them to be taped beforehand to save up to 15 minutes per cycle. We can even custom-design your facility’s track to better suit your production needs.

Here is some of the other finishing equipment we offer:

Prep Stations: GFS prep environments and open-face workstations are designed for sanding, masking and priming. While you could handle these tasks in a paint booth, a prep booth enhances efficiency by keeping your main booth clean and available for larger paint jobs.

Paint Mixing Rooms: GFS mixing rooms offer a safe, ventilated area for storing and preparing paints and coatings. All of our mixing rooms meet stringent safety and environmental standards.

Curing Ovens: GFS curing ovens can be temperature-controlled and integrated with your booth for operations requiring quick dry times.

Clean Rooms: While GFS clean rooms are primarily associated with industries such as aerospace, defense and industrial manufacturing, auto shops can also benefit from their high-efficiency air filtration and recirculation systems.

Air Make-Up Units (AMUs): AMUs regulate the temperature and volume of incoming air, helping spray booths operate efficiently year-round through consistent airflow, even in extreme climates.

Filtration and Dust Collection: Global Finishing Solutions manufactures an extensive selection of filters to remove overspray and other contaminants from the booth environment. Replacement supplies are also available.

Hazardous Material Storage Buildings: GFS storage buildings are fire-rated, fully-ventilated and compliant with all health and safety standards.

All GFS equipment is designed to work great on its own or perform as part of a broader system of finishing tools, giving body shop owners unmatched flexibility.
